The Forgiveness Foundation – International is dedicated to provide forgiveness and reconciliation resources, education and support to individuals, families, churches, agencies and countries.
Forgiveness is letting go of the ideas and feelings that keep a person stuck in the desire to get back at, attack, hurt or harm another or self, so that he or she is not only free of that resentment, grudge or desire for revenge but also has peace of mind and heart.
1) We develop and teach effective methods to enable a person to forgive, and
2) We strive to provide excellent resources to help people to get past the social barriers and the emotional defense mechanisms that prevent forgiving.
3) We insure that those who work with us can not only forgive others but gain it for themselves
4) We sponsor and help individuals, churches, communities and organizations to train people on how to forgive effectively and to spread the word on the power of forgiveness.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit and thus eligible to receive tax-deductible donations, endowments and grants to further advance forgiveness work worldwide.

Resentments and grudges are natural responses to human pain and suffering, particularly if the injured believes that the act was done intentionally. However, the after effects of holding on to a resentment or a grudge can have long term impacts on your physical health, your relationships and your sanity. To be free of resentment and to let go of grudges, we must learn to let them go. Check out this article at the Mayo Clinic that sums this up nicely.

Is it possible that forgiveness can make you more important? Teresa Norton makes a strong argument that this could be the case in her recent blog entry! In this blog, Norton describes how forgiveness can be used to transform an encounter with a rude customer into a resolved situation that leaves the person being attacked content and even proud of their achievement in dealing with the rude customer. The role-play that she conducts provides important information for how we perceive ourselves in the context of other people and highlights how important forgiveness is when dealing with even minor annoyances. In addition, status and our perception of our place among those around us, can have a profound impact on our behavior and willingness to forgive. If we perceive ourselves to be of a lower status than those around us, we can use self-forgiveness to ameliorate the negativity that drives that assumption, freeing ourselves to be our highest and best self.
Atonement is the process of making right the wrongs that we have done to others as a way to ensure that forgiveness is finalized. In the 12 Step programs, the process of making amends is considered to be as important as taking a personal inventory and these two together are absolutely essential for the recovery process to work. Atonement, often described as “At-One-Ment”, is a full-circle process that allows a person to be free of their past and to remove the obstacles in their lives that block them from their highest good.
